1991 And Present

Here's the long story

1991

One fine day on the summer of 1991, my dad came home in a neat newly restored Ford truck. Our relatives, neighbors, and friends came to check out the truck as my dad explained the details of the '72. It had a 360 Big Block Ford (which was original), with lots of chrome and brand new black paint job. I liked riding in the truck and so did everybody else. My dad, mom, and oldest sister drove the truck everywhere and my dad kept it clean. My dad mostly drove it to work and he liked taking it to the local cruise shows. My dad took pictures of it and I would take them to school and show the pictures to my classmates and my teachers and they were impressed. we would do the same thing in 1992 as my oldest sister graduated.

1993

One summer day (again), my dad had his truck parked out in the back yard when he worked on the transmission and tuning it up, my neighbors were shooting BB guns when we were'nt outside. They began to target the '72 and my granpa's camper. As they did they shot at least four holes in the truck. Two in the windsheild, one in the door, and one in the headlight frame. My mom and dad were so upset that my dad parked it by the house so nothing else would happen to it. We stayed in for the rest of the day. Later that year my mom had to drive the truck while her car was getting the engine overhauled. We needed it done before winter but it took us a long time. After that the truck began to rust at the bottom part of the left side door. My dad wasn't very happy but he fixed it before it got worse. That same day he took it to the local car cruise and it seemed like nobody noticed it, thank God.

1994

It was about spring of 1994 and dad's job on the door failed and the whole truck got worse. So we began to scrape the paint off of the body and we fixed the rust holes. When we ran out of time my dad blew the transmission out of his truck for the second time. It took us about a week to get it fixed so it was no big deal. My mom and dad were going thrugh a hard time through the summer of 1994 to spring of 1995. My grandpa died winter of 1995 and my dad nearly had the time to finish the truck so he took a break on it and parked the truck in the back yard.

1998

My mom and dad bought a new car fall of 1997 because my mom was getting tired of her 1980 Lincoln Continential and my dad's truck was turning to an end and breaking down. My dad had a 1977 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup which he had bad luck with. The summer of 1998 the front axle's bearings failed and we could'nt afford to replace the front end so he bought a better and more aggressive truck with a lift kit installed. He bought a 1976 Chevy 3/4 ton (almost like his) broken with a blown tranny, a locked up motor, and no brakes. We decided to give the truck a restoration job and we stripped it down. I just thought that we are never going to get the '72 going again. My dad was planning on selling it and it just made me mad that I want it to be mine.

1999

Summer of 1999 my mom was in a car wreck in her 1990 Camaro and she was depressed so we bought her a new car. It was a 1989 Pontiac Trans Am which she has been taken care of it since and she loves it just as much as she loved her Camaro. We got the '76 part of the way stripped down. Then we began to strip down the '77 for parts. We decided to make two trucks into one to make the truck its best. My sister was getting her licence and as she did she was getting her own car soon. My parents decided to lend the truck over to me and I was excited. As it was parked in the back yard for five years I went to look at it and hung out in it and I told a friend of mine about it and he told me about his Chevy Truck. When we got turned in by our neighbors for leaving the truck in the back yard for five years we parked it up front just to prove it wasn't illegal. We had it parked up front for two week and we parked it behind the garage covered up until we had the time to work on it. My dad's truck was running before winter began but roughly.

2001

After fall of 2000 when my dad's truck was completed and painted black, I decided to think about mine and tell others at school about it and show them pictures. When school was out, my dad and I stripped down our 1980 Lincoln Continential and took the motor out of it and got it set for my truck. In August of 2001, we moved the '72 that was behind the garage for two years a little forward without the hood we took of at the beginning of July a day after the local cruise show. At the show, my dad and I got many ideas for the '72. On the last weekend of July we went to another show and we got more ideas. The next day we took out the 351 Windsor and cleaned it up. It took us about most of August and the end of July to get it stripped down and ready to get rid of it.

A week after the 9/11 tragedy, my dad drove the '72 in the garage. He gave me a mission to get it ready for restoration. It was the last time that I've got to hang out in it when it was running but most parts had to go. It was time to strip it down finally. As we stripped it down I've done some discovering from when it was first painted. First it was originally green, then it was a Ford Maroon that was attracting, and then it was black when we bought it. As we stripped it down, my parents couldn't afford to buy parts for it until 2002 in which I had no problems with. Besides the time I've taken on it I've told students and teachers about it (like before) and showed them pictures. I even told one of my college friends and she was interested on what I told her.

2002

My dad finaly got money to buy the parts for the '72. As soon as we did we started the dirty work. We've replaced the floor panels and the cab mounts and we've already ran into a few problems. Our problems were we needed to find a radiator support and inner fenders because ours were rusted out from the rain and battery acid mixed together. My guess is that would be the most expensive things for the '72. We are still working on the hard parts. During the summer we worked on other people's cars and worked on the truck at the same time. I realized that it takes time and money to work on cars like this. Besides hte hard work I see other Ford trucks like this one...
